Nikolay Davydenko ensured that the ATP World Tour Finals will have a new name on the trophy as he beat world number one Roger Federer in three sets today.

Nikolay Davydenko beat Roger Federer in three sets today to reach the World Tour Finals

A capacity crowd at the O2 Arena in London saw the Russian beat Federer for the first time in his career, triumphing  6-2 4-6 7-5.

Davydenko reached last year’s final, losing to Novak Djokovic. The defending champion is already out, so none of the world’s top four players will feature in tomorrow’s final: Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray went out in the group stage.

The in-form 5th seed Juan Martin del Potro will face surprise semi-finalist Robin Soderling tonight for the right to face Davydenko.
