Tevez sets up Manchester Battle

Tevez scores City's opening goal

Wright-Phillips 69
Weiss 89

Manchester City swept Arsenal aside in the Carling Cup to set up a semi-final clash with their bitter cross-town rivals.

Ex-United favourite Carlos Tevez opened the scoring with a spectacular effort. Shaun Wright-Phillips’ rocket extended the hosts’ lead before substitute Vladimir Weiss sealed the victory.

After watching his sides’ comprehensive defeat, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refused to shake City boss Mark Hughes’ hand at the final whistle.

“Maybe he’s used to winning games and when he does lose sometimes he doesn’t know how to behave,” said Hughes.

“I think I have nothing to say,” said Wenger. “I am free to shake hands with whom I want after the game.”

City’s next opponents are Manchester United who defeated Spurs on Tuesday.

“It is a fantastic draw,” said ex-United striker Hughes. “I’m sure the whole of Manchester will be looking forward to it and the wider worldwide footballing public as well. We’d have fancied our chances against anyone in the draw, so bring them on.”
