“I know it’s Christmas, but look what’s on Sky Sports”

December 26, 2009

You’re absolutely stuffed full of Turkey, a little bit drunk and are about to fall asleep in front of yet another comedy Christmas special. Only one thing can save you, sport.

This is why Sky Sports is the greatest invention since the wheel. At 11.30pm throughout the night coverage of the first Test Match between Pakistan and Australia began.

Time differences may be a pain for those with relatives in far flung lands, but for festive sports fans, it’s heaven.

Philip Rivers threw for 264 yards in the Chargers victory over the Titans on Christmas night

The boxing day test is a traiditon and in twelve months time it will feature in England’s defence of the Ashes.

However it is to America that one has to look for festive sporting utopia. American Football afficionados or not, all sports fans can appreciate the brilliance of the NFL putting on one game every Christmas Day night.

This year is was the turn of the San Diego Chargers and the Tennessee Titans.

The Titans (7-7) went into the game after winning seven of their last eight but couldn’t cope with the irresistable Chargers, falling 42-17.

The Chargers (12-3) clinch a first round bye in the play-offs with the victory, aided by two Darren Sproles TDs and three Titans turnovers.
