Wildcard Weekend

January 6, 2010

This weekend sees the start of the NFL Playoffs, with Wildcard Weekend.

The action starts in the AFC as AFC North Winners the Cinncinati Bengals (10-6) take on the New York Jets (9-7). The Jets beat the Bengals 37-0 to secure their playoff berth as the Bengals rested their starters in the second half. It remains to be seen whether with injury concerns over star reviever Chad Ochocinco,  Cincy can recover all their lost momentum.

Eagles reciever DeSean Jackson (10) will clash with Cowboys safety Kevin Hamlin for the second week in a row on Saturday evening. nfl.com

Saturday evening, sees another rematch, this time over in the NFC. The Dallas Cowboys (11-5) shut out the Philadelphia Eagles (11-5), 24-0 last time out  to take the NFC East title from the Eagles and secure homefield advanage in this game. Cowboys QB Tony Romo will be looking to prove what a top player he is, after playoff nightmares in the past.

On Sunday, in the AFC, the noughties most successful team the New England Patriots (10-6) host the Baltimore Ravens (9-7) who sneaked past the Pittsburgy Steelers and into the playoffs with a 21-13 win over the Oakland Raiders. The Pats will be without reviever Wes Welker, but with a 5-0 record against the Ravens and being 8-0 at home this season, they will fancy their chances of progressing.

Finally, the NFC West winners the Arizona Cardinals (10-6) will host the Green Bay Packers (11-5) who finished second in the North behind Brett Favre’s Minnesota Vikings. The Cards define Jekyll and Hyde but their unpredictability means they could either be buried by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, or repeat laast year’s heroics of reaching the Superbowl.
