Cameroon and Zambia edge into quarters

Cameroon celebrate their second equaliser in Lubango

Samuel Eto’o scored his second goal of the tournament as Cameroon scraped past Tunisia into the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations. In the other group D game, Zambia progressed thanks to a controlled 2-1 victory over Gabon.

The Indomitable Lions, needing just a point, came from behind twice in Lubango in an entertaining 2-2 draw. Armine Chermiti’s diving header gave Tunisia the lead within a minute before, just after half-time, Eto’o equalised with a smart finish after good work from Webo. Tunisia went ahead again via some awful defending and Chedjou’s header over his own keeper but, fortunately for Paul Le Guen and his side, N’Guemo slammed home the equaliser and they held on for the draw.

Meanwhile, in Benguela, goals from Rainford Kalaba and James Chamanga handed Zambia victory against Gabon, who were unable to recreate their heroics in the 1-0 defeat of Cameroon. A late consolation from Fabrice Do Marcolino set up a frantic finish but it was too late to prevent Zambia progressing.
